2025 Spirit of the District Award - Gary Bowie
Since moving to Downtown Nashville in the early 2000s, Gary Bowie has been a visionary force in revitalizing the area, spearheading many building projects—most notably in Printer’s Alley and on 2nd Avenue. A passionate advocate for the community, he has championed historic preservation, supported downtown residents, aided small businesses, and fostered compassion for the homeless. Bowie helped shape downtown into a vibrant destination by creating welcoming spaces like Printer’s Alley Lofts and encouraging others to embrace the area. For over two decades, he’s been a dedicated supporter of local music and events like The District’s progressive party - BIG Congratulations Gary!
2025 Leadership in Service Award - Sarah Barnet
We are Proud to announce this year’s recipient of The Judy Bayer Steele Leadership in Service Award will be Sarah Barnet. Sarah has been the heart and soul of The DISTRICT for decades — the glue that kept everything together. She is our archivist and the go-to person for organizing events like Wine on the River, managing fundraising, and serving as treasurer annually. Whenever there was a Progressive Party or a big event, you could count on Sarah to be there. She’s always there, quietly keeping us on track! This is our opportunity to let her know just how much we appreciate her - BIG Congratulations Sarah!
